Anal fissure is classified as a tear or rupture in the lining of the anal canal.  If you have this condition, you’ll suffer pain during and after your bowel movements. Other symptoms include bleeding and itching of the anus.

There are various causes of anal fissures. One can get a fissure due to constipation and straining during bowel movements.  Pregnant women and those who underwent rectal surgery are also at risk of having this condition.

Anyone can experience a fissure but once you are affected by this condition, you should not be worried. Experts say that it won’t cause a cancer. With proper care and treatment, your fissure will go away after a couple of weeks. Nowadays, there are oils that serve as home remedies that can help in treating a fissure. Below are some of the oils you can use for it.

Clove Oil

Clove oil is oil extracted from cloves. This type of oil contains eugenol, a compound that is used for treating toothaches and fungal infections due to its anesthetic and antifungal properties. It is also rich in manganese which is helpful in improving digestion and controlling sugar levels. Some research have already suggested that the use of clove oil cream is helpful in treating anal problems and other bacterial infections. If you have bacterial vaginosis, a vaginal infection that causes odor, you may also use this to reduce certain symptoms.

Coconut Oil

If you have a fissure, you can also try coconut oil to treat it. It contains Vitamin E, an antioxidant that is beneficial for the skin and Caprylic acid, a fatty acid which can reduce fungal problems. Coconut oil also has an ability to produce collagen which is helpful in healing wounds, acne, burns, and other skin-related problems.  If you want to use coconut oil as a home remedy for your fissure, you can apply this oil to the affected area 2 times a day. Consuming a half tablespoon of coconut oil a day can also be helpful to improve bowel movements and relieve constipation.

Mineral Oil

Another home remedy that can help you heal anal fissures is mineral oil.  This oil is a laxative and is used to treat constipation. Mineral oil can be ingested in smaller amounts or applied on the skin. It actually has skin moisturizing properties. However, you must also be careful in using this oil. Drinking or applying larger amounts of mineral oil might cause other health issues (e.g. allergies). It is important that you also know your medical history to know whether it’s appropriate to use a specific oil or not.

It is not bad to try home remedies for your fissure especially if it will work for you but if certain symptoms arise, it’s recommended to consult a doctor immediately.

To ensure proper fissure healing, it is advised to eat fiber-rich foods (e.g. oats, nuts, fruits and vegetables) and increase fluid intake. You must also quit smoking weed and cigarettes. During bowel movements, it is advised to refrain from straining or pushing too hard to prevent the rupture from becoming worse.
