Are herpes, yeast infection and anal fissures related?

Herpes, which is caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), is a sexually transmitted infection or STI. It has two types—HSV 1 and 2. This type of infection affects the genitals and even the mouth. Common symptoms of Herpes include painful urination, fever, and arising of itchy, painful sores. When one has Genital Herpes, even the anal area and buttocks are also affected. As of the moment, there is no cure for this infection but antiviral medicines are used to control it and reduce recurrences.

Vaginal yeast infection (also called as vulvovaginal candidiasis) is also a type of infection. This infection is caused by the yeast Candida albicans. If you have this infection, it means that the number of yeast cells are growing in your vagina. Unlike Herpes, yeast infection is not a type of STI and is not contagious. A person is at risk of getting yeast infection if one has a weak immune system, diabetes, acidic vagina and high estrogen levels. Symptoms of this infection include vaginal discharge, vaginal itching, genital pain, irritation and also painful urination. Some antibiotics can trigger this infection but it can be cured with antifungal creams available in drugstores.

Since yeast infection is an infection that involves the vagina, it is also somewhat related to another type of vaginal infection called bacterial vaginosis (BV). Yeast infection and the latter are considered as the common causes of vaginitis, which the inflammation of the vagina.  BV is also similar to yeast infection in a way that both infections are caused by overgrowth. In the case of Bacterial Vaginosis, infection occurs when there is overgrowth of bacteria. Another similarity they share are the symptoms.  Both infections have a vaginal discharge symptom but the main difference is the appearance of the said symptom. The discharge in yeast infections is usually odorless and cottage cheese-like. As for BV, it has a foul, fishy smell that is very noticeable. In contrast to yeast infection, BV can be treated using antibiotics and some home remedies.

Anal fissures, on the other hand, are cuts or tears in the anus. One cause of fissure is constipation. Other causes include diarrhea, obesity, inflammatory bowel disease and anal infection. The former is related to Herpes in a way that the mentioned STI can be cause of fissure due to anal intercourse. Symptoms of this condition include painful bowel movements, anal itching and a bloody stool. Anal fissures can be healed through prescribed laxatives and even home remedies but like other conditions, they can occur repeatedly so it’s important to know the right treatment for your fissure.

The conditions mentioned are different in terms of treatment but they share some symptoms and basically affect the genitalia. They can all be prevented if one will have a healthy lifestyle and be responsible enough when it comes to sex. Your risk of getting STIs like Herpes can be lowered through the use of condoms while Vaginal yeast infection and anal fissure can be prevented by having a well-balanced, nutrient-rich diet. It is not yet proven if weed can be used to treat these diseases but if you’re  using it, it’s advised to quit smoking weed at the moment to prevent certain health problems from happening.
